This is a basic review of Chrono Trigger. Everybody's favorite game was released in the fall of '95, during the wake of the Final Fantasy III storm. I expected it to be not as good as it got, and truly I was stunned with the whole game. For one, the graphics, following FF III's style of color scheming, added beauty to an already colorful game with huge musical scores and dazziling characters and a amazing story. This is what Square Soft is all about.
Let's talk about the story. Everyone knows if the story sucks, then the game is gonna suck, too. Several games had good ideas, but really crappy stories. I can't think of any though. Oh, yeah. Beyond the Beyond. Enough said. The game ain't that bad, really, just the story and game play sucks bad. Anyway, to start off, your at home, preparing to go to a fair that happens every 1000 years. You run into a fine chick named Marle or name her yourself. From there, you go to the past, way into the future, and even further back in the past. These are the options you get when you get the ship Epoch. 1: 65000000B.C., 2: 10000B.C., 3: 600A.D., 4: 1000A.D., 5: 1999A.D., 6: 2300A.D. You get a character from all of the places except 1999, because that's when you fight the last master, Lavos. Each character plays an important of the whole story. In on point, you have the choice to kill Magus, and whether you do or not does affect one of the thirteen endings. (You have to find out which one.)
Perhaps the game does have it's bad sides. It would've looked better on a 32-bit platform, or the sound was more of a CD quality. But, it's good as it is. Only downside, I guess, is after you get Epoch with wings, the game tends to get easy. After the Flying Jet, the only other master you'd have problems with is Lavos (The humaniod form.) You need much Elixers and Megalixers for him. He can be a #*&@%. Some masters are too hard, like the twins in the underground ocean palace, when I spent a good three hours trying to beat them, and died a numerous amount of times. Some enemies are harder than the masters, too. I haven't played the game in almost two years, so I'm really doing this off the top of my head. Sorry.
Now, you compare this game to the other RPGs released out in '95. Not a lot were released, and if any where, Chrono Trigger got the most publicity. Ogre Battle was released at that time, too, I think. But you won't find a game like Chrono Trigger on any SATURN system. With the 13 different endings, (trust me, all of them are good!) you're gonna get a treat. This game is worthy to be in anyone's RPG Library, and it's a challenging game, at least 20+ hours. So, if you have at least $30, then buy it. It's worth it.

This game, in my opinion, IS THE BEST GAME OF ALL TIME ON THE SNES!!!!!!!! Two words, Magus rules. This game has one of the best storylines in a RPG since Final Fantasy 6. My favorite part of the game is Zeal. This part of the games graphics is visually splendid, and the music rules. Lavos is the dirtiest bad guy of all time ( sucks up the planets energy) This game also sports the best airship, the Epoch. The whole musical score was perfect. Also, there were tons of secrets ( Rainbow Sword, Nova Armor) just to name a few. This game is the best!!
